Hi-from guest blogger Shari:
Yesterday, 11-14, I received an email from my dog Buddy’s vet, Hillcrest Animal Hospital in Rockford, IL. The topic was about chicken jerky made in China. I would like to share this information with you, in case, you at this time, do not know about this or have friends and family with pets, that may have missed this important information.
Chicken jerky made in China IS making our dogs and cats sick. Officials working on the problem, have not established the “why”–but have enough information to make an official warning, not to purchase chicken jerky from China. Other products to avoid are: chicken tenders, duck jerky, jerky wrapped around dried fruits and sweet potatoes.
I am signed up with this website: www.dogfoodadvisor.com
It is a most helpful site in two ways-one–you can look up any dog food and you can see ingredient by ingredient how good that food is and how it is rated. Second-if you share your email address with them-you will receive all alerts for recalls, etc., concerning pet foods. This site gave me the alert that the chicken jerky from China was making pets sick. Also early this year, I got an alert from them, for a dog food recall. One of the states in the recall was Tennesse and I have a friend there, with a dog and two cats–sure enough she had a bag of the recalled food. I have found this site to be most helpful.
Lastly, if you would like the full email from Hillcrest Animal Hospital, please send me your email address and I will forward the entire email to you, which contains more details.
I sincerely hope this post will be of help to you in protecting your animal companion’s health.
-with hearts, Shari
