The Food Marketing Institute’s annual “Shopping for Health” survey found that the economy and health concerns are main reasons why more Americans are eating at home. The survey also found that consumers are purchasing more “plus” foods, or foods that promise nutritional benefits. Over half the respondents said they had switched to whole-grain bread, and it was noted that more people were specifically looking for foods with protein. Consumers also were buying more low-sodium foods than a year ago. “More and more shoppers are making the shift to foods with benefits” said a spokesperson for the Food Marketing Institute. “What’s in my food and how is it good for me?” is more frequently asked…..
