A large, twenty year study conducted in Boston provides new support for the belief that flavonoid-rich berries can delay memory decline in older people. “Among women who consumed two or more servings of strawberries and blueberries each week we saw a modest reduction in memory decline. This effect appears to be attainable with relatively simple dietary modifications,” said lead researcher Dr. Elizabeth Devore, instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School. It is estimated that women in the study on average were able to postpone memory loss by 2.5 years with the addition of berries over a period of 20 years. “We provide the first epidemiological evidence that berries appear to slow progression of memory decline in elderly women”…..
