Amantadine, a previously approved medication may have found a new use. A recent report in The New England Journal of Medicine showed that amantadine may accelerate improvement in patients with severe traumatic brain injury, such as a coma. Originally, the medication had been prescribed to prevent influenza during outbreaks. The obvious question… can amantadine work for mild head injuries as well.
