Many of our patients do not have insurance, or are in and out of insurance(often expensve Cobra). The new law will allow people to have insurance even with pre-existing headaches(or anything else). Many patients have not been able to obtain insurance due to their migraine history, or have exclusions, and now it is a better situation.
We have seen many young patients with no insurance; now they will at least have some type of insurance, and not go broke if they have some 5 day hospital stay. This is good.
The bad news is that our health system is way too expensive….there are many things we can do about that. But this is a step. After all, our health care system by itself is about the 5th or 6th largest economy in the world(larger than all of France), so massive changes take time.
