Feverfew-Induced Daily Headache

Headache patients can develop a new form of headache related to the use of certain substances or medications. An 11-year-old girl with a history of one migraine per month was started on feverfew 600 mcg/day by her mother. Although she experienced no full-blown migraine attacks during the month long treatment, the patient developed new daily headache of moderate intensity.

The patient discontinued the feverfew and her headache pattern reverted to once monthly migraine. To our knowledge, no other cases of feverfew-induced daily headache have been reported. Patients and their health care providers should be alert to possible side effects of herbal products such as feverfew.
