Objectives: To report our clinical experience with superficial cervical plexus block (SCPB) as a potential acute abortive therapy for intractable headache.

Conclusions: The SCPB is a simple and safe bedside procedure. It successfully relieved intractable headache in 4/5 patients. Like the greater occipital nerve block, the SCPB may provide analgesia by modulating nociceptive impulses in the trigeminocervical complex. Formal studies are suggested to further investigate the role of SCPB as an acute abortive therapy for intractable headaches.
